Stainless
steel derives its corrosion resistance properties from a thin oxide film
on the surface, often referred to as a passive layer. Surface contamination
can prevent the formation of the passive layer and cause stainless steel
to corrode. Heat tint or weld burn discolouration are such surface contaminants
and require removal. The "Weldkleen" machine is designed to remove weld discolouration in a safe and economical way. Small and compact, the "Weldkleen" is totally portable. The chemical reservoir tank, incorporated in the machine, has been constructed to prevent spillage when moving the machine around the workshop. The "Weldkleen" operates in a closed circuit principle, similar to welding; only in this case the electrical circuit is completed by a chemical solution applied through a porous moist pad. Enclosed in the pad is a special electrode tip, which receives low current from a rectifier in the machine. Chemical solution is pumped from the reservoir tank to the porous pad, which is situated at the end of a hand held torch. The circuit is completed when the positive pole cable is clamped to the item being cleaned. For weld cleaning, ANOPOL WK300 chemical solution is recommended. This is a phosphoric acid based solution, classified as 'corrosive'. An alternative solution is available for high quality electropolishing. On completion of weld cleaning, residue chemical can be removed from the stainless steel using a wet cloth or sponge. All "Weldkleen" machines are fitted with fume extraction for operator safety and comfort. Both the machine and the special acid resistant absorbent pad have been patented and carry the CE mark. |

‘BOND’ pads Manufactured from a special polymer material, the ‘Bond’ pad comprises two integrated layers. The layer in contact with the electrode tip is produced from a material developed for heat and chemical resistance. The other layer, which makes contact with the item being cleaned, has a soft exterior to prevent surface damage, in the form of scratches, to the stainless steel. Under normal usage, one “BOND” pad will clean over 50mtrs of TIG weld. |
||
Pad
Clamping Ring The pads are attached to the electrode tip by means of a Teflon clamping ring. Replacement rings are supplied with packs of pads or can be purchased separately. |
||
Electrode
Tips In addition to the standard electrode tip supplied with the Weldkleen machine, a variety of other configurations are available for internal and external angles, etc. Details available on request. The standard stainless steel electrode tip has a serviceable life of up to 40 hours. |
||
ANOPOL
WK300 Chemical Solution The weld cleaning solution ANOPOL WK300 contains phosphoric acid and is therefore classified as ‘corrosive’. 1kg of WK300 under normal usage will clean approximately 110 mtrs of TIG weld, which is equivalent to 150mtrs per litre. |
